Devulcanization of Recycled Rubber Compounding
Ever wonder why other traffic control products can be sold so cheaply? They are made of Devulcanized Recycled Rubber. The main difficulty when recycling rubber is that the devulcanization process compromises the rubber's desireable properties. Recycled rubber has NOT been used as a replacement for new or synthetic rubber in significant quantities largely because the desired properties have not been achieved.
Rubber chemistry is very specific to its application so there is no way to tell how a product will perform or how long it will last if you can't ascertain its specific chemistry. When rubber is recycled, it is separated by type, not chemistry, so you never know what chemistry your product has. Moreover, the recycled rubber has already been cured once, so other ingredients must be added as a binder in order to hold everything together. That is a definite weak point in the chemistry.
Other companies may claim that their products will last for a long time, but they simply can't back-up their claim with real chemistry. They just want to make the sale, not a quality product.
